PGA Tour 2024 pt. 3

This week April 25-28 the PGA Tour played in a tournament called the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in Avondale, Louisiana. This tournament is played at a course called TPC Louisiana. The Zurich Classic is not a major tournament for the PGA Tour. The Zurich Classic is different than most PGA Tour tournaments.

According to an article called "How does the Zurich Classic work? And what is player field for PGA Tour event?" written by Matthew Abbott who is a journalist. "It features a field of 160 split into 80 pairs as chosen by the players when committing to the tournament, so long as their partner has a tour card or sponsor exemption. On-course, the format alternates from fourballs to foursomes after each round, starting with the former and ending with the latter. Only the top 33 pairings through 36 holes make the cut, with both winners receiving two-year exemptions plus entry into the PGA Championship and signature events.

Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry won the Zurich Classic in a playoff against Chad Ramey and Martin Trainer. McIlroy and Lowry finished the tournament twenty-five under par for four rounds of golf. The first round they shot 61, second round 70, third round, 64, and final round 68.

In an article called "Zurich Classic of New Orleans at TPC Louisiana" on tpc.com. The Zurich Classic started back in 1938 and it has been played at TPC Louisiana since 2005.

This tournament made it twenty-five wins for Rory McIlroy and three wins for Shane Lowry. McIlroy has won four majors. He won in 2011, 2012, and two in 2014. Lowry has won one major tournament in 2019.

I also wanted to add something in this weeks blog about the LPGA Tour because Nelly Korda is making history. Nelly Korda has won the last five LPGA tournaments and only two other women and three other men have ever done that.

Korda's winning streak consists of the LPGA Drive On Championship, Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship, Ford Championship presented by KCC, T-Mobile match play presented by MGM rewards, and the Chevron Championship. She finished these last five tournaments (in order) at 11 under, 9 under, 20 under, 8 under, and 13 under par. 

The next tournament for the PGA Tour is next weekend May 2-5 and it is The CJ Cup Byron Nelson in Mckinney, Texas. This tournament is played at TPC Craig Ranch. 

The next tournament for the LPGA Tour is in two weeks May 9-12 and it is the Cognizant Founders Cup in Clifton, New Jersey. This tournament is played at Upper Montclair Country Club.
